The Experience:
The Laborie South Experience offers a diverse trail adventure, highlighting the finest paths in Paarl Mountain’s Southern region. Emphasizing Single Track and XC terrains, this route promises constant engagement. Kicking off at Laborie with a warm coffee, muffin, and brief introduction, our journey begins up the Laborie trail, leading onto the Paarl Mountain gravel road, deep into the reserve. Along the way, breathtaking vistas accompany a steady ascent to the reserve’s core.
Turning right, our path encompasses the scenic Bethal dam contour. Bethal dam, perched atop the mountain, is characterized by massive granite boulders and panoramic views. Our expedition then ventures around the upper reserve loop, pausing at Krismas camp for a snack and photo opportunity beside the iconic Paarl Rock. We then navigate through undulating terrains, approaching the peak of “the Wall” descent, which winds down to the Spice Route destination.
Our adventure continues through the Diamant XCO trail, replete with exciting features. We then transition to the renowned Advocate and Skillie Trail, a descending flow trail that plunges into the valley. Next, we explore the Bovenland Farm, which boasts compact XC trails brimming with unique elements. Our journey then ascends towards the Taal Monument attraction. To wrap up an exhilarating day, we dive into the 3km Laborie descent, marking a thrilling conclusion.
